Control Smart Devices in Alexa from Windows Taskbar

  alexa, taskbar, windows

I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but I’ll just try my luck.

I’ve got an Alexa at home and some smart devices I control with it.

My goal is to have a simple toggle button in the right side of the taskbar of my Windows desktop that can turn one of these devices on and off.

I already downloaded the windows app for Alexa on my computer to control the devices from there. But the app doesn’t provide a feature like that (controlling devices directly from the taskbar) out of the box.

I was wondering if there is a possibility to MacGyver that process maybe like:

  1. Make a shell script trigger an operation in Alexa to turn a specific device on / off (maybe due to API calls or so, I’m not familiar with that)
  2. Have a software to create a custom task bar icon that executes a shell script on click

Or maybe there is a completely different way to make this work.
